I do so love this life with you, my candy-dandy sweetie pie,
But can I trust you? I must ask, and no one needs to wonder why,
For after all, despite desire–in spite of all that mushy part–
First off, you set my soul on fire, and then, you thief, you stole my heart;
Numerous are those reasons why I know by now you can’t be trusted,
Not the least of all is which my blood-sugar is maladjusted
By your sweet enchanting love, the excess yumminess of you–
Let’s face it, robber-baron Babe, you take my ticker, still you do–
Just don’t be cruel and stomp it flat or throw it back in my poor face,
A cruel conclusion to our trysts, and on the top of it, disgrace;
Feel free to keep the pilfered part, but stick here close–I’d miss it, sorta,
If you took off and left me here without you or my own aorta.

Ah, yes! Like an illicit love affair, we know we shouldn’t but oh the temptation. I just love the artwork, Kathryn! 🙂
Thanks, Ted! Happily, my personal candy-Dandy is going to stick with me (as I see his reminder in the comments below!), so I shan’t have to rely on sugary treats to keep me happy.
And now you’ve written the perfect poem as well! Tell me, how long does it take you to draw something like this… it would take me days… I, too, dream about food:)
Some drawings take eons, some not so much! I did the bed drawing during a period when I’d promised myself to write one poem or essay a day and make one drawing a day, so it was probably a couple hours’ labor at the most. That, of course, is after decades of practice, one way or another, PLUS getting in that one-a-day groove during the project. And keep in mind that what you see here is full sized in this instance. I did my project drawings in sketchbooks so I could take my work with me everywhere, so they were perforce no larger than a sheet of 8-1/2 x 11 paper on my most productive days.
Meanwhile, the larger drawings I do take their own sweet time. My largest graphite drawing of this sort is 41 x 26-1/2″ and though I certainly didn’t work on it continuously it still took me a whole year to finish. With relatively few other projects tucked in between. Mostly what I’ve found is that I *have* to commit to a somewhat disciplined schedule with anything I want to do like this or it just won’t happen–my laziness wins out every time! 🙂
Sweet dreams, my sweet!
Isn’t that the truth… it takes dedicated focus to keep going and improving. I’ve found that with the cello, it’s hard work not just innate talent!
Step AWAY from the candy Bar! (heard through a megaphone)! Are you listening to me?, (to Smidge) I am sending you in .. she appears to have slipped into a high fructose induced coma! c
Uh-oh, who called the sweets-SWAT team??? Everybody head for the hills, and take your trick-or-treat bags with you!!!
Mmmm…Baby Ruth…I’ll cover you, while you make a run.
Just be sure you save some for me…
Kathryn! I *said* save some for ME!!!!!!
Aw, shoot…..
Not to worry, I may be a pig but I know where all the good stashes are, so follow me! And hey, wouldn’t it make a nice twist on the chase scene if we sneaked in and raided Celi and Smidge’s kitchens, since we all know they have all KINDS of deliciousness lurking in there, sweetened *and* un-!!!
Hey! I ain’t goin’ nowhere!
Well, OK, I did go to a conference . . . but I’m coming back . . . with your heart.
Love you!
Love you back, you big runaway you! Can’t wait until you’re home, but in the meantime your parents and I will just have to salve our sadness with . . . treats!!!
Beautiful drawings with perfected outlines. And the lines to go with it. Great post 🙂
Thank you, dear Firasz. A fun post to draw/write!
These drawings are great, and both so inviting…
I don’t recommend licking the computer screen, as food blogs often tempt me to do, though! 😉
