Interludes

photoContinuity

Winnowing chaff from new-cut heads

Of grain, the girls toss up from trays,

Flat-woven from the grasses there,

The seeds in ancient ways

And let the antique wind blow out

The husks in clouds of gold,

Then bow back down to seek more grain

As in the days of old,

For nothing changes in the dance

Each time the storyโ€™s told.photo

Elixir

They all were young and fair who sat

Under the rustling summer trees,

The copper beeches, lindens; these

Broad green allรฉes of hazel that

Gave shade and silver glints of sun

In rhythm with their part-songs, airs,

And with their sweet dallied affairs

While laughing brooks made haste to run

Away, as time is wont to do,

And youth, but these stayed young and fair

Forever in their summer air

Because their songs of love rang truephoto

  1. These are wonderful, Kathryn! I especially like the “Grasses” image along with “Continuity’. A wonderful pairing. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. The imagery and personification..! Completely blew me away.
Amazing work here. Bard recommended me your blog and I’m glad he did. You’re definitely worth following. I’ll be looking forward to more poetry from you…and maybe other entries too. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Now if they’ll just get to work and make some nice pasta from the grain . . . guess I’ll have to address that in a later installment. But for now, I’m glad you like it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. How I wish I could write poetry the way you do. You express so much in the way you put the words together. However, since I can not, I will just enjoy yours immensely.
Elixir is the one that resonates with me in this set. Thank you for sharing your wealth of words with us, Kathryn.

    • Thank you for sharing the experience with me, too, darling. I am so grateful for your extensive knowledge of poetry and your sharing it so that I can learn from so many poets and inspiring wordsmiths–all while delighting in your marvelous photos and posts!
