The time that passes, like a heart,
ticks on, clicks on with pulsing beat,
and with the future in retreat,
returns our spirits to the start,
reborn; we open up our eyes
and see tomorrow and the past
entwined;
the shadows that we cast
today will fall on ancient skies
and too, on stars not named
as yet— as distant as
new stars can get
from where the human world
was framed—
All this, because we know, we care
we love and hold deep in our souls
the faintest embers, banked like coals,
of sensing, taking all we share
in lineage, in land, in ties:
ancestry, marriage,
friendship, bonds—in every gene pool
and its ponds, in seas of learning,
truth and lies—
The last imagined second’s hum,
in passing, will remind us all
that only love
makes evening fall
and makes another morning come . . .
Beautiful!
“that only love
makes evening fall
and makes another morning come . . .”
🙂 Mandy
It just plain makes our world go around, doesn’t it. 🙂

“the shadows that we cast
today will fall on ancient skies”… karma
I loved the whole piece but that was my favorite; well done
So kind, Mira–I’m happy you liked it!
Indeed, lovely as always, I see your heart, a beautiful flower unfolding, as it petals drift in verse brought to ours by the wind.
And what a lovely way to respond–thank *you*, my friend!!
your most welcome
A beautiful sunset and “ooooh and aaaaah”. And your poem – “ooooh and aaaah”.
Thank you ever so much, Dennis!
Your use of dashes and your line breaks…Creates this whole new feel to your words. What a thoughtful poem, Kathryn!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I actually had the lines aligned quite differently, too, and the auto-formatting adjusted it with a left-handed lineup. I’ve monkeyed around with such formatting from time to time, but was a little too lazy this time, since I didn’t think it was seriously problematic to leave it alone.
Your piece and your words are both wonderful 🙂
Thank you, dear lady!
xoxo
Your words dancing together made the most beautiful ballet. Thank you Kathryn for your poetic heart 🙂
I am glad it touched you, dear Anyes.

Yet another lovely.
🙂
This is now my new favorite of yours. Your words are just so touching..
I learn as I go along . . . thank you, my sweet.

I especially like all the layers in the picture – a picture of time and faded memories.
It really *is* history, too, that picture. The original portion was a mixed-media collage of old photo negatives and handmade paper (pulped in my old blender) that I recycled from dining-hall disposable trays and old class papers, and then assembled, run through the lithography press with stuff to emboss it and print monotype art on it, and lastly, drawn on. That artwork is long gone–recycled yet again, I think–and all I had was a small hard-copy photo of it that I scanned, digitized and repaired, then layered with old family photos that I’ve also scanned and edited, and finally finished with digital text newly composed for the finished product. I guess I’m not the only fading old work of art around here! 🙂
Very beautiful!! Thanks that was a nice read!!
Thank you, Terri, I enjoyed assembling the piece! (See above.)
Another click on the “Like” button. Like the resounding rhyme scheme. Like the balanced rhythm scheme. After all, what’s not to like about “Heartfelt”?…
I ‘Heart’ your comment! 😀
xoxoxo
I just had a “WOW” moment! This is beautiful and your last few lines said it all, Kathryn! Beautifully penned, my friend! xo
Lauren, my dear, you can certainly take some credit for inspiring this piece, being consistently such a great creator and appreciator of love poems!
