More Fun with Drawing Toys

Not much needs to be said here. I’m on another of my tangential rambles with my art practice, and what pleases me a great deal about crawling my way into the digital era is that not only can I document my work better than I used to do, I can retain it in numerous, widely varied states and play with it without nearly so much difficulty in changing my mind and erasing or altering things as I like. Talk about a bonus for a mercurial goof-off like me.graphite drawing

    • My process is fairly simple, and the tools, while not entirely affordable by some, are not terribly complex either. In the case of most of my digital-art playing, I’ve either taken a (digital) photograph or–as in this instance–a plain black-and-white graphite drawing on paper that I’ve scanned on my Epson V300 scanner at 350 ppi, imported the file to Photoshop (I have the full designer’s edition of CS5, but only because two of my sisters work for Adobe and gifted it to me; I think Photoshop Elements has everything I use and then some), and then monkeyed around with adding filters, colors and textures to the image until I was satisfied. I often do several different versions, because as long as I’ve retained the original digital image (drawing or photo) in its un-doctored state I can easily begin again and see if there isn’t something more fun or appealing to do to it in the process.

Oh–and I work on a 4 or 5 year old 15″ Macbook Pro. I love the portability, the easy intuitive use of the system, and since I have a non-glare image screen, the clarity and detail I can achieve by blowing things up to work as though in macro.

  1. This girl could do with a few hours on the treadmill. Her outfit is gypsy cool sans bangles & other jewels. Hair is quite splendid & full. Her creator’s style is rather recognizable, 2…

    • Being curvaceous is not altogether a bad thing. (Says this girl, who can definitely do with a little treadmill time too, but mainly for fitness–my husband, remarkably, loves me, rounded corners and all.)
