Glass Passages
Strange enough that someone saw at hand,
amid a million million grains of sand,
the only water truly born of fire–
that clarity, deep brilliant light and flow,
refractory and sharp and sweet, desire
that stops in time complete and whole, as though
to freeze all thought and memory and time–
and then took flame to capture its sublime
pure rectitude and stillness; who could know
the alchemy that could and would be wrought
by taming elements to strengthen, stain
and shape anew the crystal, blazing hot
sand silicates and yet somehow retain
such potency, such power that a strand
of history would through it then be drawn
to tell the stories, made so much more grand
in glass by tying evening back to dawn,
and in the light transmitted through that glass,
commemorate the ages as they pass.

Alchemy.. Glass is magic.. c
Especially *a glass*, filled with perfect home-vinted wine, no?
Love the last two lines – suggestive of the glass lasting for centuries and seeing life pass through and by.
That’s precisely how I see it. A lens for watching history . . .
I did a number of wine exams many years ago, I wish your post had been around to read at the time, it is so descriptive of the wine making process and makes it so easy to understand. One of the the things we learned about was MOG (material other than grapes) going into the crush, I used to hope it was just leaves not bugs!
I think you’re responding to Cecilia’s post here, but I’ll just add in that if there were bugs included in the crush, that’s just extra protein, right? Of COURSE wine is good for us!

How like glass life is. Sometime clear and transparent, at other times clouded and obscured. Clear or colored, smooth or rough, and quite often- sharp! Care must be taken when handeling or injuries may occur.
Well said, my friend!
I am impressed with this post, these are amazing. Especially how you expressed in Glass Passages. This is so artistic! Together; photographs and poetical touches… Thank you dear Kathryn. With my love, nia
