And Now Let Us Pause for a Commercial Break, or at Least Some Blessed Radio Silence

photoIf You Must be Tedious,

at Least be Mellifluous about It

In the immortal poet’s phrase,

No matter if the topic strays

From strictly epic or romantic

Off to something dull, pedantic

Or illogical, it sounds

Quite lovely in the swooping rounds

And swinging curvature of thought

The poet’s pretty words have got,

So if you must tell boring tales,

At least make sure that each regales

Us with its language so we won’t

Care if you say great things, or don’t.photo

Zero in, Zero out: I’m Done Thinking, Now

Vast emptiness and silence and that sucking black-hole sound,

Sheer nihilistic nothingness and open space abound,

But nothing has prepared me yet to deal with absent thought

So far as getting something Meaningful from it; I’ve not.

So, Nothing, nothing, nothing: that’s all I have to say.

If you want more, you’ll have to come back on another day.

I’ve spent my great invention quite completely and prefer

To take a break, relax, sit back, and hope you will concur.photo

  1. It’s so true.. We always strive to find meaning for “nothingness” but so much better to just enjoy the peacefulness of it.. Xo Smidge (typing on a iPad so slow.. So I shan’t be writing as much for a while..)

    • Enforced peacefulness is sometimes the best of gifts! Enjoy it all you can, my busy love! I’m always available with boatloads of Nothingness to share if you should need further space for breathing. 😀

    • Please do. Get on a nice couch and tuck your feet up; grab a fine book and a glass of wine . . . the rest of the world will still be here buzzing around when you get back . . . 🙂

  2. It’s been another sleepless night but, rather than don my normal, grumpy disposition, I am surprisingly chipper due, in large part, to your offerings here. Thank you. I can now retire with a smile on my face. And for that, if he could, Max would most definitely thank you, as well. 🙂

    • Well, I wag my tail enthusiastically at Max’s support too! Here’s to better sleeping, John. Don’t worry–I’m sure I can bore you into a soporific state if you keep going long enough. 🙂

    • Thank you! Yes, as you can see, we’re not alone in thinking that word is a fine one. I look to writers like you to be reminded that mellifluous wording isn’t always rhyming or rhythmic, either, so much as wording that falls gracefully in the ear because it’s so *right* for the occasion.
