Fantastic Ocean
The sea has calls upon my soul, upon my heart, upon my will,
And if I drowned, I think I’d still rejoice the sea swallowed me whole,
For in my sight and in my dreams, the sea’s awash with magic grace
Not known by any other place than in its bottomless extremes,
And fantasy entwines with things that make imagination soar
Like birds and butterflies and more wild creatures than are real, whose wings
Embrace the spirit of the sweep of wave and current, saline skies–
Loveliness dazzling my eyes with all the treasures of the deep.
Just too beautiful Kathryn!

Thank you, my sweet!

Wait till my son sees this! The beautiful intersection of art and marine life….gorgeous!
I hope I’m good enough in this life to be reincarnated as a marine biologist! 😉 I’ve always loved the amazing, lovely, weird and wonderful variety of life underwater.
nice work -Ive been on the computer for over a week=sick-then the cable got messed up, I had 977 messages piled u, so obviously I wont be able to do a lot-still not well-rough week. Hope you are doing well–beebeesworld
Oh, Beebee, I hope you’re feeling MUCH better! Miserable to be laid up, and not especially fun to do all of the catching-up necessary afterward either. Be well, my dear!
I love these pictures – the colors are gorgeous.
These are all collage/mash-ups of a whole bunch of borrowed photos (the sea life is usually from several different photos to begin, then layered with photos of ice, skies, irises (eyes), caves, snowflakes, macroscopy and other ‘space’-related images, each layer Photoshopped into a painting, colored, tweaked, re-sized and so forth–all to enhance that overall sense of deep space. Just hunting for all of the sources took an age, and then doctoring each piece, then layering each piece with others, and adjusting and re-texturing and so forth, was a project that, for a series of dozens of images, ended up being incredibly involved. Still, it was terrific and educational and rewarding. All of this was commissioned by my partner-in-crime spouse to be projected above his choir during their space-themed concert, and it was well worthwhile. Fabulous music, fun times. Oh, and pictures of sea creatures–a favorite topic of mine pretty much anytime. Guess he knew I’d go for the project, no matter how much I piled it on when I got going!
Needless to say, I am delighted you enjoyed the end product! 🙂
The pictures are magnificient, proving (as if proof was needed) that you are a wonderful artist–then the words confirm you have a wonderful way with them too, In combination I was taken deep and found myself floating away too. Lovely!
As you can see from my lengthy note to our Yearstricken friend above, the original photos were not my work, but I transformed the source pictures into some enormously different images to suit my commission.
The artwork here is fantastic, Kathryn, and learning how you created it was fascinating. Thanks for the glimpse into the artist’s studio.
Any time, of course!
Especially the green-blue depths of the Atlantic Ocean, where a child once asked if they put food coloring in every day to make it that way…
Did she find out the truth?? 😉
