Yep, it’s December. I know this from looking at the calendar, and various people have assured me of it as well. But the weather sure isn’t contributing any confirming info to the mix right now. It’s still been in the neighborhood of 80°F (26°C) nearly every day. This is December? My little old northern-born soul is mighty confused.
The garden is confused, too. It’s finally cool enough overnight that the tenderest greens have wilted back, but there are still roses blooming in the area, and the grass has only slowed its growth, not stopped. Even the migratory birds seem to dawdle in the air rather than hustling off to more southerly climes. Who needs to go to warmer places when it’s still warm here!
I suppose I should enjoy the option I still have to do things like garden without frying myself or paint the front door and know it’ll dry in a couple of hours easily. But what this old broad would really enjoy is getting back to weather that both keeps me from frying whether or not I garden and perhaps even lets me keep my cool indoors and while lounging around. Maybe I should just grab a popsicle, turn up the fan, and remember that life in Texas is a whole different universe of experience than any life I’ve had elsewhere. Not a bad thing in general, after all.

I echo your frustration, though, blessedly, it has gotten colder in St. Louis this week.
Hi, Neil! Good for you–we’re *told* it’ll cool down here starting Sunday or so; we’ll see! Meanwhile, I suppose I should just take advantage of the warmth this afternoon and do the scheduled head-shot session with a singer out on the front porch to enjoy the sunlight. 🙂 Hope everything besides the temperature is just lovely for you these days! I’m looking forward to a chance soon to come by and enjoy wandering through your blog again–it’s been much too long. Best regards from still-warm TX!

Our weather has been a roller coaster ride. Last Monday it was 70˚. Today 35˚ and into the 40’s for the rest of the week. Sooner rather than later, our temps will plummet and stay there until the January Thaw, if we have one. Considering all of the problems that last Winter’s mild temps created throughout Summer, I say, “Bring it on! Jack Frost. C’mon, Susie Snowflake!” Let it snow … Let it snow … You get the idea. 🙂
Well, good cold-weather luck to us all! We did get one nice day of rain yesterday at last, and brief cooling before that; now we’re told it’s headed back toward 80-ish for a bit before cooling back down. Meh! I don’t quite get this whole weird-weather stuff. Got to just learn to roll with whatever arrives, I suppose. 🙂
Global warming is having fun with all of us with these peculiar unseasonal seasons. I would gladly take warm weather of cold any day.
🙂 Mandy
Well, my dear, even if it *is* summertime where you are and ‘winter’ here, it’s around 26 degrees C here again. I’m just plain confused! 😉 xoxo
Grew up dreaming of a white Christmas but alas! not to be; sine qua non sometime around 1952 & again in 1958, wish came true. People drove by from all around town to take pictures of our spectacular icicle laden pine tree in the front yard, along with snow that actually stuck to the ground…
Good time of year to watch old Christmas movies like ‘White Christmas’, I guess!! Down here we’re about to break out the swimsuits again. Sheesh! xo
Enjoy it. It beats having a Texas-Sized ice storm…
So very true, as you well know. We had *that* fun our first winter here, and will happily not see it again anytime soon. Just being a cranky old lady, no? Ah, that’s me for ya. 🙂 xoxo
