How the calm of evening simmers,
As a mist engulfs the lake…
Stars flick on, the city glimmers…
Walking, I am wide-awake…
In my heart, there leaps the knowing
Recognition, as I roam,
That this scintillating, glowing
Place is welcoming me home.
I have wandered many places,
Lived and loved in many lands
Where a hundred thousand faces,
Hospitable, gracious hands,
Generous, inspiring people’s
Invitations, and the rest,
Filled the land, from vales to steeples,
With the joys that please me best…
Yet, for all the sweet emotions
I have known in every spot,
I’d traverse the widest oceans
To return to where I’ve got
Such connection, deep and healing,
Such belonging, in my soul,
Recognition so revealing
That it’s Home that makes me whole.

Beautiful, Kathryn! ♥
No doubt you know precisely what I mean, as usual!
Have you thought of having someone (self, husband, other) set these lines to music?
Neither of us has the compositional gift, but I love having my poetry set to music! I’ve had only a few small pieces done thus far, but never give up the idea…. 🙂 How’re *your* compositional chops?? Seems to me there’s little you haven’t mastered! 😉
I’m afraid your vote of confidence isn’t warranted in this case. I wish I had musical talent, but I don’t.
I consider myself a talented listener and supporter of musicians. Gotta do what we’re fit to do!
And now I can be my usual flippant self and note that in this post you’re taking stock, home in Texas, of your stay in Sweden.
welcome home – there’s no place better, wherever on earth it is! very nice poem! ;^)
Thank you, sweet Aisha! Home really *is* where the heart is. I know that you understand that better than many! Wishing you joy and love,
Miss your blogs. merry Christmas wherever you may be

Many thanks, beautiful Rosemary! Christmas joy to you!! We’ve been a-wandering since early November, across the US, across the ocean, and across town to a new home as well. 😀 I’ll try to get up the gumption to return to posting, shortly. Meanwhile, sending much love.
Very lovely, and you are right, home does make us whole… the very best to you in this beautiful holiday season. Michelle
My warmest wishes to you for love, hope, and joy throughout the season and the year to come, my sweet!
