Now that you mention it, the speaker in the poem could have been perfectly played by Margaret Rutherford. And from what I’ve read, she wouldn’t even know what was funny about it after the whole scene had played out and gone, just like the President’s wife.
And thinking of the Marx brothers, the mustache trimming scene was already in one of their movies, no? I think perhaps it was in Monkey Business…”just a little snoop here…”—but I get all of their films rather commingled in my tumble-dry mind. Appropriately enough. Thanks for making me think of those deliriously fun movies, though!
Oh this is just brilliant Kathryn!!! Thank you for the big smile! 😄😄 xx
Delighted to see you smiling any time I can, my darling! 😀

Your mention of waxing the car reminded me of this interchange from the Marx Brothers movie “Horsefeathers”:
Secretary: (Entering again.) The Dean is furious! He’s waxing wroth!
Wagstaff [Groucho]: Is Wroth out there too? Tell Wroth to wax the Dean for a while. (Aside to professor.) Guess that’s bad, eh?
